OpenCal vs Cal.com's free plan
Cal.com and OpenCal each offer a free plan for one person. This page compares the calendars each app reads, what a visitor sees, and what happens with a company Teams calendar. Cal.com's terms come from its pricing page and blog, fetched October 8, 2026.
What are Cal.com and OpenCal?
Cal.com is a scheduling app with a free plan for individuals and paid plans for teams and organizations. OpenCal is a free app that shows your open times from all your calendars on one link. A visitor can book a time on either app.
What does Cal.com's free plan include?
Cal.com's free Individuals plan is listed as "Free forever" for "1 user". The pricing page lists these free features: "Unlimited event types & calendars", "Email & SMS notifications", "Integrate with 100+ apps", "Mobile App", "Browser Extension", "Accept Stripe & PayPal payments", "Two-way Salesforce & HubSpot sync" and "1-click import Calendly events". OpenCal is free and has no paid plan.
Which calendars can Cal.com and OpenCal read?
Cal.com's calendar app directory lists Google Calendar, Office 365, Exchange, Apple Calendar, CalDAV, ICS feed, Zoho Calendar, Lark and Vimcal. OpenCal reads several Google accounts, personal and work Microsoft accounts, and one iCloud account. OpenCal can also read a Teams or Outlook desktop calendar with Read from screen, Outlook on the web with its Chrome and Edge extension, and any private .ics address.
Can the person I send the link to see times that work for both of us?
Yes, Cal.com and OpenCal both let a visitor compare their own calendar with yours. Cal.com's booking page has an "Overlay my Calendar" toggle; Cal.com says "your availability will be overlaid over theirs showing you when you're available, and most importantly, when you're not." On OpenCal, a visitor who signs in with Google or Microsoft sees only the times that work for both of you. The OpenCal server compares the two calendars, so neither person receives the other's busy times.
How can OpenCal read my Teams calendar when my company blocks outside apps?
OpenCal can add that calendar with Read from screen. Microsoft's Entra ID documentation says admins can turn off user consent or allow it only for apps from verified publishers, and then an admin must approve the app. In OpenCal, open your Teams or Outlook desktop week view, press Read from screen and pick that window. The screenshot never leaves your browser. OpenCal stores only the busy times, encrypted. Each read takes one press and one window pick, so you read your week again when it changes.
What does Cal.com do that OpenCal does not?
Cal.com offers unlimited event types, email and SMS notifications, a mobile app, payments through Stripe and PayPal, and Salesforce and HubSpot sync on its free plan. Its paid Teams plan adds "1 team, shared availability", "Round-robin scheduling" and "Routing forms". OpenCal has no event types, payments, round-robin or shared team availability. OpenCal has a free group poll for finding a time with several people. OpenCal sends no email itself. Google or Outlook sends the invite when you turn on adding bookings to your calendar.
